‘For Men To Talk Shed’ Information Evening a Great Success

The first ‘For Men To Talk Shed’ information evening was a great success, with local people coming together at ‘The Stag Pub in Stotfold’ to hear about the exciting new project.
The evening brought together people interested in attending the Shed, volunteering their time or sharing ideas to help shape the project before it officially opens in Stotfold. There was plenty of enthusiasm as attendees discussed activities, practical skills and ways the Shed can benefit the local community.
The ‘For Men To Talk Shed’ will be a hands-on, creative workshop where men can enjoy practical activities while building confidence, friendships and a sense of purpose.
Unlike the main ‘For Men To Talk’ peer support groups, which provide a safe place for men with anxiety, depression, grief and other mental health challenges to talk openly, the ‘For Men To Talk Shed’ is about ‘time together, not tough conversations’. Men can simply enjoy working alongside others, learning new skills and taking part in meaningful projects. Conversations may happen naturally, but there is never any pressure to talk about personal issues.
The Shed will offer a wide range of activities. Men will be able to build furniture, bird boxes, bat boxes and hedgehog houses, repair and refurbish bicycles, restore furniture, carry out computer maintenance and even explore 3D printing. There will also be opportunities to take part in seasonal projects, such as making flower planters, holiday decorations and other items that can be used around the community.
One of the aims of the project is to help men develop practical skills in a supportive, peer-led environment. Working together on shared projects encourages teamwork, builds confidence and creates friendships. It also gives men the satisfaction of making something with their own hands.
Many of the finished items will be sold during community events and open days. Money raised will help support the ongoing work of the Community Interest Company (CIC), making the Shed more self-sustainable while giving participants a real sense of achievement.
The workshop itself will include workbenches, tools, safety equipment and secure storage for projects. Sessions will be supported by volunteers and facilitators who will help create a welcoming and safe environment for everyone.
The wider aim of the ‘For Men To Talk Shed’ is to reduce the stigma surrounding men’s mental health by providing an accessible place where men can connect through shared activities. By focusing on creativity, practical work and community projects, the Shed offers another positive way for men to improve their wellbeing.
Luke Newman, CEO and founder of ‘For Men To Talk’, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people attend the information evening and share their ideas. The support we received shows there is real excitement for the ‘For Men To Talk Shed’. This project is about bringing men together through practical activities. It gives men the chance to learn new skills, build friendships and enjoy spending time together without any pressure. We are now looking forward to welcoming attendees, volunteers and supporters as we prepare to open the Shed in Stotfold.”
“We’re now looking for local businesses, trade companies and suppliers to help bring the ‘For Men To Talk Shed’ to life. Donations of tools, equipment and materials will make a real difference. We would also welcome donations of safety equipment such as gloves, goggles and dust masks, along with workbenches and storage units. We’re also inviting local businesses to become sponsors of the Shed. By supporting this project, you’ll be helping create a welcoming space where men can learn new skills, build friendships and improve their wellbeing through practical activities. Every donation and every sponsorship will help us make a lasting difference in our community.”
Planning for the ‘For Men To Talk Shed’ will now continue ahead of it’s official opening, with more opportunities for people to get involved. Whether you would like to attend, volunteer, donate tools or materials, or share your skills, everyone is welcome to help make this exciting new community project a success.
