Face-to-Face Support Still Matters

General News, News & Events

In a world where so much communication happens online, it can be easy to forget the importance of face-to-face conversations.

Social media, websites, newspapers, booklets and online groups all have an important role to play. They help organisations such as ‘For Men To Talk’ reach more people and share information about our meetings and services.

But seeing someone in person is still very important.

For some men, taking that first step can be difficult. They may see a post online or read an article, but it can be very different when they meet someone face-to-face, have a conversation and realise they are not alone.

At ‘For Men To Talk’, we believe that talking to people in person can make a real difference.

Over the next few weeks, ‘For Men To Talk’ will be attending and speaking at several events, giving us the opportunity to meet people, explain what we do and answer questions.

These include:

  • Party On Potton’s Community Day – Saturday 30 August 2026, Potton, Bedfordshire, 12pm-5pm.
  • Country Fayre Exhibition – Saturday 19 September 2026, St Andrew’s Church, 10am-4pm. We will have a display board.
  • Network Rail Hitchin Safety Day – Monday 21 September 2026, Nightingale House, Hitchin.
  • Community Early Help Networking Event – Wednesday 23 September 2026, Central Bedfordshire Council Offices.
  • Barton le Clay Rotary Club – Tuesday 29 September 2026, 7:15pm.
  • Co-op in Stotfold – Wednesday 30 September 2026, 12pm-3pm.
  • Co-op Food in Shefford – Wednesday 7 October 2026, 11am-1pm.

‘For Men To Talk’ has continued to grow and now offers physical, virtual, walking, social and fishing meetings across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

We currently have meetings in Ampthill, Biggleswade, Potton, Sandy, St Neots, Gamlingay and Hitchin.

Our peer support meetings are for men suffering with mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression and grief. They provide a safe and comfortable environment where men can talk about whatever is on their mind.

Conversations can cover work, relationships, anxiety, family life and many other subjects. There is no pressure to speak. Men can say as much as they like or as little as they like. There is no registration, referral or cost required.

Luke Newman, CEO and founder of ‘For Men To Talk’, said: “Social media and our website are fantastic ways of reaching men, but nothing replaces sitting across from someone and having a real conversation. Face-to-face contact helps build trust, creates connections and can sometimes be the first step towards a man opening up.”

We also offer ‘For Men To Talk about Autism’, a dedicated group for autistic men, men with autistic family members and those waiting for a diagnosis.

Our ‘For Men To Talk Social Club’ is different again. It is about spending time together rather than having tough conversations, with monthly trips to places such as restaurants, cinemas and comedy clubs.

We will also shortly launch the ‘For Men To Talk Shed’, a hands-on workshop where men can take part in practical and creative activities while building confidence and community.

Online communication will always be important. But sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is simply be there, face-to-face, and talk.
