Re-introducing ‘For Men To Talk’ on World Mental Health Day

General News, News & Events

World Mental Health Day is observed on 10th October every year to raise awareness about mental health issues and promote mental well-being worldwide. The day encourages open conversations about mental health, reduces stigma, and advocates for better mental health services and support.

For 2024, the theme is “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right”, focusing on the importance of making mental health care accessible for everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances.

We’d like to take this opportunity to re-introduce the support offered by ‘For Men To Talk’:

‘For Men To Talk’ is a community interest company focused on providing a supportive environment for men dealing with mental health challenges. We aim to create a safe and non-judgmental space where men suffering from anxiety, depression, and grief can share their experiences, feelings, and coping strategies with peers who understand their struggles. The main objectives of ‘For Men To Talk’ include:

  • Promoting Mental Health Awareness: By fostering open discussions about mental health issues, we seek to break down the stigma often associated with men seeking help for emotional and psychological problems.
  • Providing Peer Support: The core of the our work is peer support groups where men can talk openly about their mental health without fear of judgment. These groups facilitate mutual understanding and shared experiences, which can be therapeutic and empowering.
  • Offering Diverse Meeting Formats: To accommodate different preferences and comfort levels, ‘For Men To Talk’ offers various meeting formats, including physical meetings, virtual sessions, fishing, and walking meetings. This variety helps in reaching a broader audience and making support accessible in different ways.
  • Encouraging Social Connection: Isolation can exacerbate mental health issues. By providing regular opportunities for social interaction, we help men build supportive networks, reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation.
  • Enhancing Coping Strategies: Through discussions and shared experiences, men can learn and adopt effective coping mechanisms to manage their mental health challenges better.

The healing power of nature is undeniable, and ‘For Men To Talk’ recognises this by organising walking sessions. Walking in a natural setting can have a therapeutic effect, reducing stress and anxiety. Combining the benefits of physical activity with meaningful conversations, these walking meetings provide an opportunity for men to engage in supportive discussions while enjoying the outdoors. It’s a chance to take a step towards better mental and physical health, both individually and collectively.
