Get Teens Talking: Helping Young Men Build a Healthier Future

General News, News & Events

Talking about mental health should start early. That is why ‘For Men To Talk’ is proud to support a new social media campaign called ‘Get Teens Talking’, created by Oliver Newman during his week-long work experience.

The campaign is aimed at young men aged between ’13 and 18′. These teenage years are some of the biggest years of change in a young man’s life. School, exams, friendships, family life, relationships, social media and thinking about the future can all bring pressure. Learning to talk about these challenges now can help build healthy habits that last into adulthood.

Many young men still feel they have to keep their feelings to themselves. Some worry about being judged, while others believe they should simply “get on with it.” Keeping emotions bottled up can make problems feel bigger and harder to deal with. Talking to someone they trust can make a real difference.

By encouraging young men to speak openly, they can better understand their emotions, build confidence and learn that asking for support is a sign of strength, not weakness. These are important skills that can help throughout their adult lives, whether at university, in the workplace, in relationships or when becoming fathers themselves.

The ‘Get Teens Talking’ campaign will share messages across social media that encourage young men to open up about how they are feeling. It aims to remind teenagers that they are not alone and that support is available. Sometimes all it takes is one conversation to change the direction of someone’s life.

Luke Newman, CEO of ‘For Men To Talk’, said: “If we can help young men feel comfortable talking about their mental health between the ages of 13 and 18, we are giving them skills that can benefit them for the rest of their lives. We want talking about mental health to become as normal as talking about physical health.”

Oliver, who created the campaign during his work experience, said: “I wanted to create something that encourages young men my age to talk about how they’re feeling. Everyone goes through difficult times, and nobody should feel they have to face them on their own. If this campaign helps even one person start a conversation, then it has been worthwhile.”

At ‘For Men To Talk’, we believe prevention is just as important as support. Helping teenagers understand that it is okay to talk can reduce loneliness, improve wellbeing and encourage them to seek help before problems become overwhelming.

We hope the ‘Get Teens Talking’ campaign inspires parents, teachers, friends and communities to keep these conversations going. Together, we can help create a future where every young man knows that speaking up is normal, support is available and no one has to struggle alone.
