Men’s Health Week – Look out for symptoms!

General News, Male Cancer Awareness, News & Events

Men’s Health Week is an annual event observed internationally to raise awareness about men’s health issues and encourage men to take proactive steps towards improving their well-being. It typically takes place during the second week of June every year. The primary goal of Men’s Health Week is to promote education and understanding of preventable health problems that affect men and to encourage early detection and treatment of diseases.

Men sometimes face challenges when it comes to discussing their physical health. However, promoting awareness and encouraging open conversations about health issues, including testicular and prostate cancer, is one of the key objectives for ‘For Men To Talk’ as well as mental health.

We have a particular emphasis on encouraging men to be proactive about their health by educating them about the symptoms and risk factors associated with various conditions. By providing information about the signs to watch for, ‘For Men To Talk’ aims to empower men to recognise potential symptoms early on and seek medical attention promptly.

Testicular cancer typically presents as a lump, swelling, or change in the testicles. Men are encouraged to perform regular self-examinations to detect any abnormalities and consult a healthcare professional if they notice any concerning changes. Prostate cancer, on the other hand, may manifest with symptoms such as difficulty urinating, frequent urination, blood in urine or semen, or pain in the pelvic area. Men should be aware of these symptoms and discuss them with a healthcare provider if they occur.

While ‘For Men To Talk’ provides a focused platform to raise awareness about specific health issues affecting men, it’s important for men to maintain an ongoing dialogue with healthcare providers and seek regular check-ups. By doing so, men can proactively monitor their health and address any concerns or potential issues in a timely manner.

Testicular Cancer

Testicular cancer is cancer that develops in the testicles, which are part of a man’s reproductive system. There are around 2,300 new testicular cancer cases in the UK every year. Download a PDF of the poster here.

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is cancer that starts in the prostate gland. The prostate gland is found at the base of the bladder and is about the size of a walnut.  More than 47,500 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year – that’s 129 men every day. Download a PDF of the poster here
