Pride of Potton Award: A Special Moment for Luke Newman, CEO of ‘For Men To Talk’.

Receiving recognition is never the goal, but sometimes it reminds you just how much a community can mean.
At the Potton Chairman’s Community Celebration, Luke Newman, CEO and founder of ‘For Men To Talk’, was awarded the very first Pride of Potton Award for 2026. The award was presented by Councillor and Chairman of Potton Town Council, Vicki Gwilliam, in recognition of Luke’s dedication to supporting others and his contribution to the local community.
Vicki Gwilliam praised Luke’s work, saying the award was given for his “outstanding contribution to the community, and his dedication and kindness in supporting others.”
Luke has lived in Potton for nearly 20 years. It’s a place he proudly calls home. Over that time, he has seen the town grow, come together, and support one another through events and initiatives. During the celebration, achievements across the town were highlighted, including the Christmas Lights, PottonFest, and Remembrance Sunday. These moments show what makes Potton special — people giving their time and energy to bring others together.
For Luke, the award carried a deeper meaning because of that connection. “I never launched ‘For Men To Talk’ for awards or recognition… but this means a lot,” he said. “In my hometown of Potton, it’s extra special. I am incredibly honoured, emotional and very surprised to receive the first ever Pride of Potton Award at the Potton Chairman’s Community Celebration.”
‘For Men To Talk’ has continued to grow, offering support to men through a range of meetings. These include physical groups, virtual sessions, walking meet-ups, social events, and even fishing gatherings. Each one provides a safe and welcoming space where men can talk openly, or simply spend time around others who understand.
There are also more focused groups developing within the community. ‘For Men To Talk about Autism’ offers a space for autistic men, those with autistic family members, or those waiting for a diagnosis. It’s about connection, understanding, and shared experience.
The ‘For Men To Talk Social Club’ offers something different. It focuses on time together without pressure. Whether it’s a trip to the cinema, a meal out, or a comedy night, it’s about building friendships and enjoying simple moments.
The monthly ‘For Men To Talk – Potton’ meetings continue to take place at the Rising Sun.
Groups such as Potton Community Orchard, Deepdale Trees, Party On Potton, and Potton Youth Council all play their part. From creating green spaces to organising large community events and developing young people’s skills, each contributes to the town’s identity and sense of belonging.
This award is not just about one person. It reflects a wider movement — people supporting people.
Luke’s work with ‘For Men To Talk’ continues to focus on one simple but powerful idea: giving men a space to talk, connect, and feel less alone.
