We applaud ‘For Men To Talk’… just not with an award!

General News, News & Events

When the East of England StartUp Awards recently concluded, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation. Among the attendees was ‘For Men To Talk’ which had been shortlisted for Consumer Services Startup of the Year for its approach to addressing mental health challenges for men. While we did not receive the coveted award, our disappointment was overshadowed by the realisation of the immense impact they we have already made.

‘For Men To Talk’ is not your typical startup. It doesn’t boast a revolutionary product or groundbreaking technology. Instead, it focuses on providing a safe and supportive environment for men to express their thoughts, feelings and struggles. In a society where traditional gender norms often discourage men from seeking help, this group stands as a beacon of hope.

The East of England StartUp Awards recognises individuals who have taken risks, launched new products or services and transformed their ideas into successful ventures. While ‘For Men To Talk’ may not fit the conventional mold, its impact on the lives of countless men cannot be overstated. The real measure of success lies in the positive change we have brought about, rather than a trophy or plaque.

The peer support group was established by Luke Newman who recognised the need for a safe space for men to share their experiences without judgment. He understood that by fostering open and honest conversations, he could help break the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and provide support where it was sorely needed.

Since its inception, ‘For Men To Talk’ has facilitated hundreds of discussions, offering a platform for men to talk about their struggles, anxieties and personal triumphs. The group has been instrumental in combating loneliness, providing a sense of belonging and empowering men to seek help when they need it most. Lives have been transformed and stories of resilience and growth have emerged from within its supportive embrace.

In a world that often measures success in terms of material gains or recognition, ‘For Men To Talk’ serves as a poignant reminder that the true value of an initiative lies in the positive impact it has on individuals and communities. The absence of this StartUp Award will not be viewed as a setback but rather as an opportunity to highlight the importance of our work and to inspire others to create similar support networks.

The East of England StartUp Awards may not have acknowledged the extraordinary achievements of ‘For Men To Talk’, but our legacy transcends any single event. We have created a haven for men to share, heal and grow. Our impact will continue to reverberate long after the applause fades away.
