On Saturday 8 July 2023, the first ‘For Men to Talk…and Fish’ event took place at Manor Farm Lakes. This unique gathering aimed to bring men together, provide an opportunity to engage in the age-old practice of fishing and foster meaningful conversations about life. The event, hosted by a highly experienced angling coach and facilitator, turned out to be a resounding success, attracting five enthusiastic attendees.

“I was nervous about going, but there was no need to. Three hours of laughs and I’m going to take my sons fishing very soon. Whilst fishing, I was able to forget about my troubles and life in general. I would recommend it to anyone,” shared one of the participants.

This heartfelt testimony highlights the immediate impact that ‘For Men to Talk…and Fish’ had on its attendees. The event provided a safe and welcoming space where individuals could leave their worries behind and immerse themselves in the serene surroundings of the lakes.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it. I met new friends and I look forward to coming to the next one,” expressed another participant.

This feedback shows the power of the event was not only in the act of fishing but in the connections forged among the attendees. The shared experience of angling brought these men together, providing a common ground for conversations and establishing new friendships. In a world often characterised by digital interactions, this gathering showcased the significance of face-to-face connections and the joy of building relationships.

“I really enjoyed it. I haven’t been fishing it since I was young,” stated a participant, reminiscing about his past experiences. For many attendees, ‘For Men to Talk…and Fish’ served as an opportunity to reconnect with a beloved hobby from their youth. Under the guidance of the qualified angling coach, they were reintroduced to the art of fishing, rekindling a passion that had been dormant for years. The event proved that engaging in activities from our past can reinvigorate our spirits, bringing back cherished memories and a sense of fulfilment.

The overwhelming positive response to the very first ‘For Men to Talk… and Fish’ event sets the stage for future gatherings. The success of this inaugural event demonstrates the pressing need for spaces where men can connect, communicate and find solace in shared experiences. By promoting mental well-being and fostering a sense of community, ‘For Men to Talk… and Fish’ has the potential to become a movement that positively impacts the lives of many by providing them with a space to talk, fish, and build meaningful friendships.
