For Men To Talk chosen as part of the Co-op Local Community Fund
For Men To Talk, a mens peers support group, based in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire are delighted to announce that they have been chosen as part of the Co-op local community fund for the local Gamlingay store.
Launched in 2016, the Local Community Fund has supported over 30,000 local community projects across the UK, with the group now nominating 4,000 charities and organisations, who play a vital role in the wellbeing of local communities in 2023 and 2024.
Early this year, Co-op announced that they were looking to support local projects that are helping their community in one of the following ways:
- Bringing people together to access food
- Improving mental wellbeing
- Providing opportunities for young people
- Enabling people to restore nature or tackle climate change
‘For Men To Talk’ is a peer support group for men who are suffering with a mental health illness, such as anxiety, depression and grief, to talk in a safe and comfortable environment. Conversations include many factors in a man’s life, including work, relationships, anxiety and many others.
The funding round will start on Sunday 22 October 2023 and will run for 12 months until 19 October 2024. During this time, Co-op Members will be able to choose ‘For Men To Talk’ as their cause and help to raise funds for their projects via https://bit.ly/FMTTCOOP. When Co-op Members buy selected Co-op products and services, 2p for every £1 spent goes to the men’s peer support group.
“I am absolutely thrilled and honoured that ‘For Men To Talk’ has been selected as a nominated cause for the Co-op Local Community Fund. This will enable us to continue our vital work in providing men with a safe and supportive environment for peer-to-peer discussions, fostering mental health and emotional well-being,” said ‘For Men To Talk’ founder Luke Newman. “With the support of the Co-op and its members, we can further our mission to break down stigmas surrounding men’s mental health and create lasting positive change within our community.”
‘For Men To Talk’ offer face-to-face, virtual, walking and fishing meetings in Potton, Sandy, Gamlingay, Biggleswade, St Neots, Bedford, and Stockport. They have also recently launched ‘For Men To Talk about Autism’, specifically tailored for autistic men, men with autistic family members or men who are awaiting an autism diagnosis.
