Making a difference: A journey to Kenya with our ‘For Men To Talk’ founder

General News, Kenya, News & Events

Greetings everyone,

As I sit down to write this blog post, I’m filled with a profound sense of gratitude and purpose. Once again, I find myself on the verge of embarking on a journey to Nakuru, Kenya, a place that has become like a second home to me over the years. As the founder of ‘For Men To Talk’, a men’s peer support group, my mission extends beyond the borders of our local community. This week marks my ninth humanitarian trip to Nakuru, and with each visit, my commitment to making a positive impact grows stronger.

This journey isn’t just about me—it’s about the collective effort of those who believe in the power of giving back. Together with Derby County Community Trust and African Adventures, I will be lending a helping hand to a school in one of the poorest suburbs of Nakuru. This school is not just a place of learning; it’s a beacon of hope for hundreds of children who deserve access to quality education and a chance for a brighter future.

Our tasks during this trip are manifold. From assisting with teaching and refining teaching styles to contributing to the school’s feeding program and even constructing a new classroom, there’s no shortage of work to be done. But amidst the physical labour and long days, it’s the connections we forge and the smiles we bring to the children’s faces that truly fuel our spirits.

However, none of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our community back home. The trip comes with its financial burdens, amounting to almost £3,000 each year. Yet, thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we’ve been able to overcome this obstacle time and time again. Just last month, seven dedicated members of For Men To Talk, along with myself, took on the challenge of the TCS London Marathon MyWay, raising funds to support my humanitarian endeavour.

Also, a massive thank you to ‘Eden Tyres & Servicing’ for once again supporting me by sponsoring my shirt. They are a leading automotive service provider, providing expert tyre fitting and wheel alignment alongside MOT testing, vehicle servicing and repairs.

To all those who donated and supported us along the way, I extend my deepest gratitude. Your contributions are making a tangible difference in the lives of these children, and for that, I am truly thankful.

As I prepare to document my daily activities in Nakuru through this blog, I invite you all to join me on this journey. Together, let’s shine a light on the transformative power of compassion and community. Stay tuned for updates from the field, and together, let’s continue to make a difference, one step at a time.
