Luke Newman, the founder of ‘For Men To Talk,’ attended the prestigious Captain’s Day at Millbrook Golf Club, a highlight event in the golfing calendar. This year’s event, held in honour of 2024 club captain Simon Gaulton, showcased a day of golfing excellence, camaraderie, and charitable fundraising.

Millbrook Golf Club is committed to supporting mental health awareness and fundraising for vital causes throughout 2024. This year, the club is proud to promote and raise funds for ‘For Men To Talk’ and Chums through a series of engaging events.

‘For Men To Talk’ is a peer support group dedicated to providing a safe space for men suffering from anxiety, depression, and grief to share their experiences and support one another. They offer a variety of meeting formats, including physical, virtual, fishing, and walking sessions.

Chums is a mental health and emotional wellbeing service that supports children, young people, and their families, offering a range of services tailored to their needs.

Captain’s Day is celebrated as one of the most enjoyable and prestigious events at Millbrook Golf Club. This year’s event featured:

  • Special Golf Tournament: A tournament for teams of four players.
  • Social Events: Including a BBQ, fish and chip supper, live singer, and DJ.
  • Prizes and Trophies: Awards for categories such as overall winner, longest drive, shortest putt, and nearest to the pin.
  • Raffles and Auctions: Exciting opportunities to win and bid on various prizes.

While Captain’s Day honours the captain, it also fosters a sense of community, bringing together club members and guests for a memorable celebration.

Luke Newman delivered a heartfelt speech, including what ‘For Men To Talk offers. He also expressed his gratitude to all participants and supporters. “I am hugely grateful to all the golfers for playing, buying tickets, and bidding on auction prizes. Some golfers even auctioned their holiday homes for a week. Their generosity made me a little emotional if I’m honest.” Newman shared. “I also had some very important conversations with a couple of golfers about how ‘For Men To Talk’ could support them.”

Throughout the evening, Luke engaged with attendees, providing informational flyers, business cards, and pull-up banners. He also promoted and sold “The Mental Health Moles” book, a valuable resource filled with advice on mental health topics. The book, suitable for men, women, boys, and girls, is a testament to Luke’s commitment to mental health, with all profits supporting ‘For Men To Talk.’
