‘For Men To Talk’ founder Luke Newman speaks to men at Biggleswade Baptist Church
Last Saturday morning, a group of 30-40 men gathered at Biggleswade Baptist Church to listen to a powerful presentation from Luke Newman, founder of ‘For Men To Talk’. Gareth Godfrey, a representative from the church, expressed his enthusiasm for the morning. “We have a mix of church and non-church men come along, and I knew they would like to hear about ‘For Men To Talk,’” he said.
The Importance of Talking for Men’s Mental Health
Luke Newman’s group ‘For Men To Talk,’ was created to provide a safe space for men suffering from anxiety, depression, and grief. The idea is simple but crucial: to offer men the chance to talk openly with others who understand their struggles. Often, men feel pressured to keep their emotions to themselves. This can lead to feelings of isolation, worsening mental health, and even physical illness. ‘For Men To Talk’ aims to break down these barriers.
In his presentation, Luke emphasised the importance of men opening up about their feelings. “It’s okay not to be okay,” Luke shared. “What matters is taking that first step to talk to someone. You’d be amazed at how much it helps to just be heard.”
By sharing his personal journey and the experiences of others, Luke gave hope to the men in the room. Many of them, facing their own challenges, could relate to what he was saying. He encouraged everyone to reach out to someone, whether through his group or another trusted source. The simple act of talking can make a huge difference.
What ‘For Men To Talk’ Offers
‘For Men To Talk’ provides various ways for men to connect, whether they prefer face-to-face meetings or virtual ones. The group holds physical meetings in places like Biggleswade, giving local men a chance to meet up and share in a supportive environment. For those who feel more comfortable at home or who live further away, virtual meetings are available. These options make it easier for men from all over to participate.
In addition to traditional meetings, ‘For Men To Talk’ also organises walking and fishing sessions. These outdoor activities offer men a relaxed atmosphere where they can talk freely, away from the pressures of daily life. Being in nature often makes it easier to open up, and it’s a great way to combine physical and mental well-being.
