Promoting positive mental health: ‘For Men To Talk’ at BBC Three Counties Radio Headfest
This week, ‘For Men To Talk’ was excited to join BBC Three Counties Radio for Headfest at the Quarry Theatre in Bedford. Headfest is a two-day event focused on mental health and wellbeing, bringing together speakers, workshops, and activities that engage the public in promoting positive mental health.
Luke Newman, the founder of ‘For Men To Talk,’ gave a special presentation at the event. He shared the story of how the peer support group started, its growth in helping men deal with mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and grief, and the group’s future plans.
In Luke’s words, “I had some very important conversations with people about what ‘For Men To Talk’ offers. I also spoke to other support groups about collaborating in the future. I’m especially looking forward to working with Menopause Support and Autism Bedfordshire.”
‘For Men To Talk’ is excited to work with ‘Menopause Support,’ a non-profit organisation led by Diane Danzebrink. It is also the home of the #MakeMenopauseMatter campaign. This collaboration aims to provide guidance to men who are supporting loved ones going through menopause, helping them understand the challenges and how best to offer support.
Additionally, ‘For Men To Talk’ will continue working with Autism Bedfordshire, an independent charity focused on improving the quality of life for autistic children, young people, adults, and their families. Together, they hope to provide more support for men who could benefit from both organisations.
Headfest gained media attention and was featured on BBC Look East. Luke was invited to give a brief introduction to ‘For Men To Talk,’ which was a great opportunity for promotion and to raise awareness about the support group.
Tara Dolby, one of the organisers of Headfest, highlighted the event’s importance: “If you’re suffering with your mental health, you feel alone. Something like Headfest brings together many organisations that offer support during tough times. Even if you don’t need help right now, you’ll know where to find it in the future. That’s why events like this are so important.”
‘For Men To Talk’ provides a supportive space where men can talk about their mental health challenges with others who understand what they’re going through. The group offers various types of meetings—physical, virtual, walking, and even fishing gatherings—to make sure every man feels comfortable and supported in sharing his experiences.

Headfest was a successful event in raising awareness for mental health, and the collaborations that have come out of it will bring even more support to men who need it. ‘For Men To Talk’ will continue to grow and reach more men, ensuring no one has to face their mental health challenges alone.
