The Importance of Learning CPR and Supporting RevivR

General News, News & Events

Learning CPR is one of the most essential life skills you can have. It empowers ordinary people to step in and potentially save a life when someone experiences a cardiac arrest. Every year, over 30,000 people in the UK suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests, but unfortunately, survival rates are alarmingly low. Less than one in ten people survive, often because CPR is not performed quickly enough or by enough bystanders. However, performing CPR and using a defibrillator can more than double someone’s chance of survival.

This is where RevivR, the interactive online CPR training course from the British Heart Foundation (BHF), comes in. At ‘For Men To Talk,’ we are proud to support RevivR and promote the importance of learning CPR within our peer support community.

Why Learn CPR?

Cardiac arrests can happen anywhere, at any time, and often without warning. They occur when the heart suddenly stops pumping blood around the body, and without immediate action, the chances of survival plummet. CPR keeps oxygen circulating to vital organs like the brain, giving the person the best possible chance of surviving until professional medical help arrives.

Knowing CPR means that in a moment of crisis, you can stay calm and confident, taking swift action that could save a life. Waiting for emergency services alone may not be enough—each minute without CPR reduces survival chances by around 10%.

This is not just a skill for healthcare professionals. It’s something that every individual can and should learn, as bystanders play a crucial role in improving survival rates.

RevivR: Learn CPR in 15 Minutes

RevivR makes learning CPR simple and accessible. This free online training, offered by the BHF, takes just 15 minutes to complete. You don’t need any previous experience or special equipment—just a mobile phone or tablet and a cushion to practice on. Once you’ve completed the training, you’ll receive your own CPR certificate, showing that you’re equipped to handle an emergency.

What makes RevivR so impactful is that it’s interactive, guiding you step-by-step through the process in a way that is easy to understand and remember. Whether you’re at home, work, or even out and about, you can access the training at a time that suits you. It’s a fantastic tool for everyone, from complete beginners to those wanting a refresher on their CPR skills.

Why ‘For Men To Talk’ Supports RevivR

At ‘For Men To Talk,’ we believe in supporting men not just through mental health challenges, but in equipping them with practical, life-saving skills. Men are often in environments where sudden health emergencies, like cardiac arrests, can occur—whether at work, while exercising, or even at home. Having the knowledge to perform CPR empowers them to act when it matters most.

RevivR fits perfectly with our mission. It’s free, quick, and accessible to everyone. By encouraging the men in our support group, and the wider community, to complete the training, we’re not only fostering mental resilience but also the skills to protect the physical health of those around us.

The Bigger Picture: BHF’s Vision

The British Heart Foundation’s mission goes beyond just teaching CPR. Their vision is a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases. Through research, advocacy, and education, they are working tirelessly to find cures and treatments that give people more time with their loved ones.

Supporting RevivR is just one way that ‘For Men To Talk’ can contribute to this vision. By learning CPR, you’re not only gaining a life-saving skill, but you’re also helping to raise awareness of heart health and the importance of fast action during emergencies.

Let’s help the BHF in its mission by taking just 15 minutes out of our day to complete the RevivR training and encourage others to do the same. You never know when you might need to use it.
