It’s okay to just get through the year

General News, News & Events

As the end of the year approaches, social media will soon be filled with posts about achievements in 2024. People will share photos of holidays, career milestones, fitness goals, or other proud moments. While these posts can be inspiring, they can also feel overwhelming or even upsetting for some. If you’re scrolling through your feed and feel like you didn’t achieve much, remember this: it’s okay if the only thing you did this year was get through it.

The Dangers of Comparison

Social media often shows a highlight reel, not real life. People tend to share their best moments and leave out the struggles. Comparing yourself to these posts can lead to feelings of jealousy, frustration, or sadness. It’s important to remember that everyone’s journey is different. What you see online is only part of the story.

When you compare yourself to others, you might forget your own accomplishments, no matter how small they seem. Getting through tough days, showing up when it was hard, or even just taking care of yourself are achievements too.

Social Media Jealousy

Seeing constant positivity on social media can sometimes make us feel like we’re falling behind. This can especially be true for men who may already feel pressure to succeed and stay strong. Social media jealousy can lead to low self-esteem, anxiety, or depression.

If you find these feelings creeping in, take a break from scrolling. Remind yourself that success looks different for everyone. Your value isn’t tied to how much you’ve achieved or how perfect your life seems compared to someone else’s.

A Safe Space to Talk

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or struggling with anxiety, depression, or grief, remember that you don’t have to face it alone. That’s where ‘For Men To Talk’ can help.

We are a peer support group offering a safe and welcoming space for men to talk about their mental health. Whether you prefer physical meetings, walking groups, virtual chats, or fishing meetups, there’s a place for you.

At ‘For Men To Talk,’ you can connect with other men who understand what you’re going through. Sometimes, just knowing you’re not alone can make all the difference.

Focus on Your Own Progress

As the year wraps up, focus on what you’ve done to take care of yourself. Celebrate the small wins. Maybe it was reaching out for help, taking time to rest, or simply pushing through a difficult moment.

Instead of comparing yourself to others, think about your own progress and goals. What made you proud this year? What do you want to work on in 2025?

You’re Not Alone
