Celebrating ‘For Men To Talk’ and founder Luke Newman’s birthday

General News, News & Events

On 19 December 2024, Luke Newman, the founder of ‘For Men To Talk’, celebrates his 44th birthday. This special occasion also marks the incredible journey of ‘For Men To Talk’, a men’s peer support group helping those struggling with anxiety, depression, and grief.

A Personal Journey Turned into a Mission

Luke’s inspiration to start ‘For Men To Talk’ came from his own battles with mental health. After losing his mother and sister to cancer, Luke faced overwhelming grief and anxiety. Though he sought counselling, he realised there were few spaces for men to openly share their feelings. Determined to make a difference, Luke created a Facebook page for ‘For Men To Talk’ on Christmas Eve 2019.

The first meeting took place on February 13, 2020, at Jones’ Café in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. Nineteen men gathered, bonding over topics ranging from football and movies to deep discussions about mental health. It was clear this was the start of something meaningful.

Growing Across the Country

Nearly five years later, ‘For Men To Talk’ has expanded significantly. The group offers in-person meetings, virtual sessions, walking meet-ups, and even fishing events across multiple counties in the UK. The group’s open-door policy invites any man who needs support to join, listen, and share their thoughts in a safe and welcoming environment.

Luke’s leadership has turned ‘For Men To Talk’ into a beacon of hope for many men who once felt isolated.

Humanitarian Efforts in Kenya

Luke’s compassion extends far beyond the UK. Since 2015, he has visited one of the poorest suburbs of Nakuru, Kenya, nine times, helping build and renovate school classrooms and spending time with local children. In 2025, Luke will return for the tenth time, aiming to make an even greater impact.

This year, he plans to be joined by 100 volunteers from Derby County Community Trust, including his father Steve, brother Paul, and nephew Max. Together, they will continue vital work, bringing education and joy to Kenyan children.

Luke needs to raise £2,500 for his trip. If you’d like to support him, please donate at https://tinyurl.com/lnrik25.

A Legacy of Care and Compassion

Luke Newman’s work with ‘For Men To Talk’ and his humanitarian efforts reflect his deep commitment to making the world a better place. As he celebrates his 44th birthday, let’s applaud his dedication to helping others, both at home and abroad.
