Five years of support: ‘For Men To Talk’ in Biggleswade in 2025
In 2025, ‘For Men To Talk’ will mark its fifth year of holding regular meetings in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. This important milestone highlights the continued need for safe spaces where men can share their struggles and support each other.
The group meets twice a month at The Crown Hotel (Wetherspoon) in Biggleswade. Known for its history, The Crown Hotel dates back to before 1672. It stood as one of 11 inns in the town by 1700. However, it was destroyed in the Great Fire of Biggleswade, which began at the hotel on June 16, 1785. The inn was later rebuilt and has evolved over the years, becoming a grade II listed building in 1978. After closing in 2013, it reopened as a hotel and pub under the Wetherspoon brand. Today, its historic walls provide a welcoming space for the group’s gatherings.
In addition to indoor meetings, ‘For Men To Talk’ offers a monthly walking group. These walks take participants along the scenic Biggleswade Green Wheel Route. This circular path weaves through beautiful countryside, giving members a chance to enjoy fresh air, connect with nature, and talk as they walk.
What Is ‘For Men To Talk’?
Founded by Luke Newman, ‘For Men To Talk’ is a peer support group specifically for men struggling with mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, or grief. It offers a safe, supportive environment for open discussions with others who share similar experiences.
Luke Newman, the group’s founder, emphasises the importance of these spaces:
“Sometimes, all it takes is a conversation to remind you that you’re not alone. That’s what ‘For Men To Talk’ is all about—sharing, supporting, and showing up for each other.”
Why It Matters
Men often find it hard to talk about their emotions, fearing judgment or misunderstanding. This reluctance can lead to feelings of isolation, making mental health struggles even harder to bear. Groups like ‘For Men To Talk’ help to break down these barriers, showing men that it’s okay to speak up and seek support.
The meetings and walks provide more than just a listening ear—they create a sense of community and belonging. Whether sitting in the historic Crown Hotel or walking the peaceful trails of the Green Wheel, members can find a moment of connection, hope, and relief.
