Hitchin MP to help celebrate the one year anniversary of ‘For Men To Talk…and Walk – Hitchin’
Marking a Milestone Together
On Friday, 3 January 2025, ‘For Men To Talk…and Walk – Hitchin’ will celebrate its one-year anniversary. This men’s peer support group has been a vital lifeline for those experiencing anxiety, depression, and grief. The walk will start at 6pm from St Mary’s Church, Hitchin, Hertfordshire, opposite the Sir Ian Dixon Memorial Fountain.
The event will have a special guest—Alistair Strathern, the Labour MP for Hitchin. He’ll join the walk to show his support for the group’s mission.
What is ‘For Men To Talk’?
‘For Men To Talk’ is more than just a support group. It’s a safe space for men to share their experiences with others who truly understand. The group provides a mix of physical meetings, including walking and fishing, as well as virtual sessions for those who prefer connecting from home.
Luke Newman, founder of ‘For Men To Talk,’ shared: “The Hitchin walk has become a symbol of what we stand for—connection, support, and understanding. We’re proud of the community we’ve built over the past year.”
Why Walking Matters
Walking meetings like this one aren’t just about exercise. Walking together encourages conversations to flow naturally. Without the pressure of sitting face-to-face, men often find it easier to open up about their feelings.
Luke Newman explained, “Walking side-by-side can make all the difference. It’s a simple yet powerful way to talk while enjoying the fresh air and surroundings.”
A Year of Progress
Since its first steps a year ago, the Hitchin group has brought together dozens of men, creating a community where they feel heard and supported. Each walk represents an opportunity for them to build connections and find strength in shared experiences.
The one-year anniversary walk is not just a celebration of the past year’s success but also a reminder of the ongoing need for such initiatives.
