‘For Men To Talk’ founder meets MP Richard Fuller to discuss men’s mental health support
Luke Newman, founder of ‘For Men To Talk,’ recently met with Richard Fuller, Conservative MP for North Bedfordshire and Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury. The meeting took place at Richard’s drop-in surgery at The Weatherley Centre in Biggleswade, where constituents can share their concerns and seek advice.
During their conversation, Luke updated Richard on the progress of ‘For Men To Talk,’ a peer support group for men struggling with anxiety, depression, and grief. The group provides a safe space for men to talk with others facing similar challenges. Meetings are held in various formats, including in-person, virtual, fishing, and walking sessions. These meetings currently take place in Biggleswade, Sandy, Potton, Gamlingay, Hitchin, St Neots, Stockport, and Aldershot.
Luke and Richard also discussed the need for further men’s peer support groups in Shefford, Ampthill, and Flitwick. Luke shared his plans for the next three years and the importance of securing funding to sustain and expand these meetings. Richard offered to review Luke’s business plan, acknowledging the significance of the work being done.
“Over the last five years, I’ve seen the impact of ‘For Men To Talk.’ Men need spaces where they can open up without judgment. Expanding these meetings to more locations will allow even more men to get the support they need,” said Luke Newman.
Richard thanked Luke for his dedication and hard work since founding ‘For Men To Talk’ in 2019. The meeting was a valuable opportunity to highlight the importance of mental health support for men and the ongoing need for community backing.
‘For Men To Talk’ continues to grow, providing vital support to men across multiple locations. With plans for further expansion, Luke remains committed to ensuring more men have a place to talk, connect, and heal.
