For Men To Talk at ‘Support for Men’ Event

On Tuesday 25 February 2025, ‘For Men To Talk’ will be attending the ‘Support for Men’ event hosted by Bedfordshire Mental Health Alliance. This event will take place at Meppershall Village Hall from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
This gathering is an opportunity to explore how community and specialist support can better reach men who may be struggling with their mental health. Many men face challenges such as anxiety, depression, and grief but may not know where to turn for help. Events like this aim to change that.
What to Expect
Attendees will have the chance to hear from and speak with people who run support programs for men. There will also be conversations with men who have first-hand experience with peer support. These discussions can provide valuable insight into what works and how different approaches can make a difference.
The event is open to a wide range of organisations, including charities, community groups, and service providers. This includes those offering mental health support, advice, leisure activities, and education. NHS professionals and local authorities are also encouraged to attend.
Why This Event Matters
Men often struggle to seek help for their mental health. The reasons vary—some fear stigma, while others believe they should handle problems alone. As a result, many suffer in silence. This event focuses on understanding these challenges and finding effective ways to engage men in support services.
The key goals of the event include:
- Understanding how many men are using support services and how it affects their health.
- Recognising the unique pressures faced by men of different ages.
- Learning about projects that successfully reach men and the methods they use.
- Sharing ideas, challenges, and successes in engaging with men.
- Networking with other organisations to build better support systems.
‘For Men To Talk’ and Its Role
‘For Men To Talk’ is a peer support group for men struggling with anxiety, depression, and grief. It provides a safe space where men can share their experiences with others who understand. The group offers various types of meetings, including in-person, virtual, fishing, and walking sessions.
Luke Newman, founder of ‘For Men To Talk,’ understands the importance of events like this. He says, “Many men feel they have to face their struggles alone. But when they talk, they realise they are not alone. This event is about making sure more men know that support is available and easy to access.”
