(A poem inspired by Elvis Presley song titles)

I’m standing in the Heartbreak Hotel,
Where men like me, with stories to tell,
Caught in a world that’s hard to explain,
Crying in the Chapel, hiding the pain.

I’m just a Hound Dog, chasing the past,
Feeling like A Fool Such As I, losing so fast.
But deep in the silence, I hear the sound,
Of Suspicious Minds circling ’round.

I want to have A Little Less Conversation,
A moment of peace, no hesitation.
But the world pulls me back, makes me All Shook Up,
And I’m drinking from a bitter cup.

Sometimes I think I’ll Return to Sender,
Mail my heart away, no one to render,
But I Can’t Help Falling In Love with life’s light,
Though it fades in the dark, deep in the night.

So here I am, with Wooden Heart strong,
Trying to sing a much softer song.
Because even men must break down and cry,
Before they get the chance to fly.

If I Can Dream, if I can be free,
Maybe one day, I’ll truly see me.
