(A poem inspired by Barbra Streisand song titles)

In the Way We Were, I hide my pain,
A quiet storm, no room for rain.
But deep inside, it’s hard to cope,
Where is the man who knows to hope?

I try to smile, but it’s Guilty lies,
Somewhere beyond these tearless eyes.
Each day I fight to just be strong,
But People think there’s nothing wrong.

You Don’t Bring Me Flowers, but that’s okay,
I’ll push through life, my silent way.
A man, they say, should never cry—
Yet deep within, my heart asks, “Why?”

Evergreen, I strive to be,
Unshaken by the stormy sea.
But still, I wish to let them know,
There’s pain in what I never show.

Don’t Rain on My Parade, I plead,
But oh, sometimes, I feel the need,
To speak the words I hold inside,
In The Places That Belong to You, I hide.

Send in the Clowns, but not to jest,
For in my heart, I seek some rest.
I’ll find my way, I always do,
But now and then, I need it too.

What Kind of Fool am I to say?
Men feel the weight of every day.
But one step more, I’ll push ahead,
For in this life, we rise from dread.

A man’s mind, strong yet soft as clay,
Some Good Things Never Last, they say.
