‘For Men To Talk’ is proud to announce its nomination in the Health and Wellbeing category at the Stockport Rocks! Volunteer Awards Celebration 2025. This recognition shines a light on the incredible impact the organisation has had on the mental health and wellbeing of men in the Stockport area since launching its local meetings in April 2023.

Running twice a month at The Wheatsheaf on Higher Hillgate, Stockport, ‘For Men To Talk – Stockport’ offers a safe and welcoming space for men who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, or other mental health challenges. It is a chance for them to talk, be heard, and find comfort among others who truly understand.

The group is part of the wider ‘For Men To Talk’ Community Interest Company (CIC), a non-charitable limited company that exists purely to benefit the community. Through physical, virtual, fishing, and walking meetings, the organisation continues to help men openly discuss their mental health, with the ultimate aim of reducing stigma and encouraging early intervention.

The nomination is a testament not only to the value of the group, but also to the dedication and passion of its volunteers. A key figure in the success of the Stockport meetings has been local facilitator Johnny Hurst, whose warmth, empathy, and consistency have been instrumental in building trust and community among attendees.

Luke Newman, Founder of ‘For Men To Talk’, praised Johnny’s unwavering commitment:
“Since the very first Stockport meeting in April 2023, Johnny has been at the heart of it all. His ability to make everyone feel welcome, his honesty, and his drive to support others in their darkest moments have made the Stockport group a vital lifeline for many men. I couldn’t be prouder of what he has achieved and continues to achieve. This nomination is not just for ‘For Men To Talk’—it’s a reflection of Johnny’s dedication and the strength of every man who has walked through those doors.”

Stockport Rocks! is an annual event that celebrates the incredible volunteer workforce that powers over 1,700 local charities, community groups, and social enterprises. These volunteers provide crucial services that help Stockport’s communities remain healthy, happy, and safe.

Sector3, a registered charity supporting the Voluntary, Community, Faith-based and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) Sector in Stockport, is once again leading the event in partnership with Stockport Council, Stockport County Community Trust, and Marketing Stockport. The celebration will take place at Edgeley Park, welcoming 400 guests for a night dedicated to honouring local heroes.

Winners will be announced on 20 May 2025.
