Black & White for ‘For Men To Talk’: A Campaign of Courage on World Suicide Prevention Day

General News, News & Events

On World Suicide Prevention Day – 10 September 2025, we’re inviting schools, workplaces, sports clubs, and communities to take part in a powerful movement: Black & White for ‘For Men To Talk’. This simple act of wearing black and white isn’t just about colour. It’s about contrast. It’s about visibility. And most importantly, it’s about making it OK for men to talk.

‘For Men To Talk’ is a Community Interest Company (CIC) founded to provide safe, supportive spaces for men suffering with anxiety, depression, and grief. Through in-person meetings, virtual groups, walking sessions, and even fishing retreats, men are given the chance to connect with others who understand — and start breaking the silence around mental health.

“Wearing black and white is a statement. It tells the world that we stand with those who are struggling. That we believe in the power of listening. That we’re ready to change the conversation,” says Luke Newman, founder of For Men To Talk.

Why Black and White?

Because these two colours represent the extremes that many men silently shift between — from isolation to connection, from despair to hope. Black and white symbolises that mental health isn’t always visible, and that many suffer behind smiles, jokes, and masks.

Some feel the pressure to “man up” instead of speak up. This campaign is here to challenge that. It’s time to say that being vulnerable is a sign of strength, not weakness.

What You Can Do

On 10 September, we ask you to wear black and white and become part of a movement that supports men’s mental health.

– Wear Black and White

Whether you’re at school, work, or home, dress in black and white as a symbol of solidarity. Asking for a suggested donation of £1

– Share Your Why

Post a photo or message on social media with the hashtag #BlackAndWhiteForMenToTalk. Use your voice to raise awareness:
“I’m wearing black and white for men who are suffering in silence. Let’s talk.”

– Donate or Fundraise

Host a non-uniform day, a bake sale, a silent walk, or a coffee morning to raise funds for For Men To Talk, supporting the growth of their meetings and outreach.

– Start the Conversation

Schools, businesses, and groups can use the day to host a short mental health talk, show a relevant video, or invite a guest speaker to spark important dialogue.

This World Suicide Prevention Day, help send a message that no man should have to suffer in silence. Let’s make black and white more than colours. Let’s make them a reminder that talking saves lives.

Because two colours. One message:
Let’s make it OK for men to talk.
