‘For Men To Talk’ celebrated as finalist at the 2025 Small Awards

For the second year running, men’s peer support group ‘For Men To Talk’ was honoured as a finalist at the prestigious Small Awards, a nationwide event recognising the very best of Britain’s small businesses. This year, they were shortlisted for the Heart Of Gold category, a tribute to small businesses that make a meaningful difference within their communities. Although they didn’t take home the award, being named one of just eight national finalists is a remarkable recognition in itself.
Founded in December 2019 by mental health advocate Luke Newman, ‘For Men To Talk’ offers a safe and inclusive space for men coping with anxiety, depression, and grief to share their experiences. The group’s work extends across physical, virtual, fishing, and walking meetings, creating varied avenues for connection and support that are both accessible and non-judgmental.
This year’s Small Awards, now in their ninth year, were held on 22 May 2025 at the iconic St Mary’s Church in London. Organised by Small Business Britain, the event brought together inspirational entrepreneurs and changemakers from all corners of the UK’s small business community. The Heart Of Gold category, sponsored by Constant Contact, recognises businesses that collaborate with charities, councils, schools, and other local entities to create lasting community impact.
With founder Luke Newman away on his tenth humanitarian trip in Kenya, ‘For Men To Talk’ was proudly represented at the ceremony by Facilitator Kenny-Joe Witney and Community Outreach Worker Hayley Newman. Though the award eluded them once again, their presence marked the continuing growth and recognition of the group’s mission.
Reflecting on the honour, Luke Newman said, “To be recognised for the second year as a finalist in the Heart Of Gold category means so much. It’s a testament to the brave men who attend our sessions and support one another, and to the team who work tirelessly behind the scenes. Whether we win or not, it’s the connections we build and the lives we help change that matter most.”
The Small Awards continue to shine a spotlight on small businesses that are not just economically vital, but socially transformative. “Every year, the Small Awards celebrate the UK’s most inspiring small business owners, who are the heart of their communities,” said Michelle Ovens CBE, Founder of Small Business Britain. “‘For Men To Talk’ is extremely deserving of being a finalist.”
The story of ‘For Men To Talk’ is a story of resilience, compassion, and genuine community spirit. And while the trophy may have gone to another small business this year, the real reward lies in the everyday moments of support and understanding that this group continues to provide.
