‘For Men To Talk’ wins best men’s peer-led mental health support group at SME Business Elite Awards 2025

‘For Men To Talk’ has been named the Best Men’s Peer-Led Mental Health Support Group at the SME Business Elite Awards 2025, hosted by SME News. This recognition celebrates the group’s impact in supporting men who face challenges with their mental health.
The SME Business Elite Awards, launched in 2018, highlight the efforts of small and medium-sized enterprises across the UK. While big corporations often attract the spotlight, these awards shine a light on the businesses and organisations that form the backbone of the UK’s economy. SME News works with an in-house research team to fairly assess nominees, ensuring recognition is given based on achievements rather than size or history. Winning an award provides companies and groups with a platform to showcase their work and gain the recognition they deserve.
This year, ‘For Men To Talk’ stood out as an organisation that not only supports men but also creates a safe, comfortable, and welcoming community where conversations matter.
Founder Luke Newman, who created the group following his own struggles with anxiety, depression, and grief, shared the motivation behind it:
“I know how painful it can feel to keep everything bottled up. That’s why I wanted to create a space where men can talk openly about whatever they are going through, whether it’s work, relationships, anxiety, or loss. There are no rules, no registration, no pressure – just a chance to speak or to listen. Sometimes that simple act of talking can make the biggest difference.”
Luke’s vision began with a Facebook page on Christmas Eve 2019. By February 13, 2020, the first in-person meeting took place at Jones’ Café in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, where nineteen men came together to talk. Since then, the group has grown steadily, holding meetings in towns across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, and even as far as Stockport in Cheshire.
The meetings are relaxed, covering everything from football, television, and films to deeper conversations about mental health, emotions, and life’s challenges. The idea is simple but powerful: give men the chance to talk without fear of judgement.
The organisation has also expanded its reach with ‘For Men To Talk about Autism’. This group is designed for autistic men, men with autistic family members, or men awaiting a diagnosis. It provides a safe and inclusive space to share experiences and support one another.
Winning at the SME Business Elite Awards is not just a recognition of the group’s efforts, but also a celebration of the many men who attend and contribute to its success. Their willingness to talk, to listen, and to support one another makes the community thrive.
Luke remains committed to continuing the journey: helping men find strength in conversation, and reminding everyone that no one has to face their struggles alone.
