‘For Men To Talk’ joint hosting Men’s Health Event in Ampthill

On Friday 6th February 2026, men from across Central Bedfordshire are invited to take time for their health at a special Men’s Health Event in Ampthill. The event is being delivered by Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire, Ampthill Town Council and ‘For Men To Talk’. It will take place at Parkside Hall, Woburn Street, Ampthill MK45 2HX, from 9.30am to 1.30pm, and a free lunch will be provided.
Many men put off getting help when something does not feel right. This might be a worry about their body, their mood, or the pressures of daily life. This event has been created to make support easy to access in one place. It offers practical advice, clear information, and real stories that can help men take small but positive steps towards better wellbeing.
Throughout the morning there will be a friendly marketplace of local organisations. These groups will be on hand to offer advice and explain the services they provide for men and their families. There will also be guest speakers sharing their lived experiences and professional knowledge. Men will be able to learn more about routine health checks, what they are for, and how to access support in their own community.
Luke Newman, founder and CEO of ‘For Men To Talk’, will speak about why he started the group and the different ways men can get involved, including physical, virtual, walking and fishing meetings. He says, “For Men To Talk was created to give men a simple, safe space to open up about how they are really feeling. Events like this show men that support is out there and that taking that first step can change everything.”
Other speakers will also share powerful and useful stories. Dave Bateson, founder of Ampthill vs Cancer, will talk about his own cancer journey and how it led him to raise large sums of money for others. Tony McCool, a former professional footballer, will explain how he lost everything while caring for his wife who had a very rare illness, and how he has rebuilt his life. Claire Young, founder of Claire’s Boob Battle, will speak about resilience and how unexpected events can change us in ways we do not always notice. Dr Alison Rimmer from Lea Vale Medical Practice will focus on heart health, high blood pressure and cholesterol, and will be joined by the practice nurse to offer extra support. Neil Waring from YouTurn Futures will outline how the organisation helps men with mental health, recovery and wellbeing.
There will also be many stallholders, including Carers in Bedfordshire, the Bedfordshire NHS Foundation Trust Diabetes Education Team, Samaritans, Everyone Active, IMPAKT, Good Life Sorted, iCASH and Parallel Lives. These organisations will be ready to answer questions and point men in the right direction.
A massive thank you goes to the event sponsors, Ampthill Fireplaces and The Social, whose support has helped make this day possible.
This Men’s Health Event is a chance to listen, learn and connect. Whether you come with questions or just to see what support is available, you will be very welcome.
