Supporting the community in Ampthill: Events that make a difference

Ampthill, General News, Meetings, News & Events

In May 2025, Stephen Addy was elected as Mayor at the Ampthill Town Council Annual Meeting. He began his term with a clear focus: to support local people and important causes. Alongside him, Gary Summerfield was chosen as Deputy Mayor.

During his year in office, Mayor Addy selected two charities to support: Ampthill vs. Cancer and For Men To Talk – Ampthill. Both organisations play a vital role in the community. They provide help, support, and connection for people going through difficult times.

‘For Men To Talk’ was founded by Luke Newman. The group gives men a safe and welcoming space to talk openly about their mental health. Many men face anxiety, depression, or grief in silence. This group helps break that silence.

Luke shared why it means so much to him: “The idea to start ‘For Men To Talk’ stemmed from my own experiences of grief after tragically losing my mother and sister to cancer, so I truly support Ampthill vs. Cancer. I’d like to thank Cllr Stephen Addy for supporting ‘For Men To Talk’ – Ampthill during his time as Mayor.”

As Mayor Addy’s term comes to an end, there are still several events planned to raise money and bring the community together. These events are simple, welcoming, and open to all.
