We are proud to share some amazing news from ‘For Men To Talk’. Our very own Kenny-Joe Witney has been shortlisted for the Volunteer Award at the 2025 BBC Three Counties Make a Difference Awards!

This award recognises people who make a big difference in their local communities through volunteer work. Kenny-Joe has done exactly that, and more. The winners will be announced during a special ceremony in Dunstable on 18 September 2025.

Kenny-Joe’s journey hasn’t been easy. He has faced personal struggles with his mental health for many years. He is also diagnosed with autism. But instead of letting these challenges hold him back, Kenny-Joe has turned them into a way to help others.

For the past 18 months, Kenny-Joe has led two important groups:

  • ‘For Men To Talk about Autism’, a virtual meeting held twice a month. This group supports autistic men, men with autistic family members, and those waiting for an autism diagnosis.
  • ‘For Men To Talk – Hitchin’, a walking group, also held twice a month. It allows men to walk, talk, and support each other in a relaxed setting.

And that’s not all. Kenny-Joe also started the ‘For Men To Talk’ market stall in Hitchin. Profits from the stall go back into supporting men who are struggling with their mental health.

Luke Newman, the founder of ‘For Men To Talk’, shared how proud he is of Kenny-Joe’s work: “Kenny-Joe is an inspiration. He gives his time, his energy and his heart to support other men. His commitment is making a real difference in people’s lives.”

‘For Men To Talk’ is a peer support group for men. It gives men a safe space to speak about anxiety, depression, grief, and other struggles. The group offers a variety of meetings – in person, virtual, fishing, and walking. Thanks to donations and fundraising, the physical and walking groups continue to grow and help more men across the community.

Kenny-Joe’s nomination is a shining example of how one person can spark change. He shows that talking, listening, and simply being there for others can have a huge impact.

We are all cheering Kenny-Joe on and looking forward to the awards night in September. No matter what happens, he’s already a winner in the hearts of the men he’s helped and supported.

Let’s continue to talk, support, and grow together.
