‘For Men To Talk’ founder invited to No. 11 Downing Street for Small Business Celebration

Luke Newman, founder of the men’s mental health group ‘For Men To Talk’, has been invited to a special reception at No. 11 Downing Street. The event, hosted by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt. Hon Rachel Reeves.
The reception is in honour of the finalists from The Small Awards 2025. These awards, run by Small Business Britain, celebrate the hard work and success of small businesses across the UK. The evening will include welcome drinks, speeches, and the chance to meet other business owners and community leaders.
‘For Men To Talk’ was chosen as a finalist for the second year in a row, this time for the Heart Of Gold award. Although they didn’t win, they were one of just eight finalists selected nationwide in this category. The Heart Of Gold award highlights businesses that make a real difference in their local communities. This includes work with charities, schools, councils, and other small organisations.
Luke Newman said, “To be invited to No. 11 Downing Street is a huge honour. It’s a moment to reflect on the impact ‘For Men To Talk’ has made and the lives we’ve touched. I’m proud of what we’ve built together.”
The Small Awards is now in its ninth year and continues to shine a light on the UK’s 5.5 million small firms. These include micro-businesses, start-ups, and family-run companies that are vital to the economy and society.
‘For Men To Talk’ was founded in December 2019. It began with a simple but powerful idea: to give men a safe space to speak about their mental health. Many men suffer in silence with anxiety, depression, and grief. This group helps break that silence.
The group offers different types of support. There are in-person meetings, virtual sessions, and even fishing and walking groups. These activities give men a chance to open up and connect with others who understand what they are going through.
Luke wanted to create a space where men could talk honestly, without fear or judgement. Over the years, ‘For Men To Talk’ has helped hundreds of men feel less alone.
Although they didn’t take home a trophy this year, the recognition and invitation to Downing Street show the value of their work. Being named a finalist in such a respected award shows how much their efforts mean to others.
As Luke Newman says, “It’s not about winning. It’s about being recognised for helping men who truly need support. That’s the real reward.”
With continued support and awareness, ‘For Men To Talk’ will keep growing and helping even more men find the courage to speak.
