The power of a work-life balance – recognising burn out

General News, Music, News & Events

Life moves fast. Work can be busy. Responsibilities pile up. And sometimes, without even realising it, we start to burn out.

Recently, I was getting close to that point myself. Tired, overwhelmed, running on empty. I knew something had to change. That’s when I decided to take a few days off and head down to Cornwall – and I’m so glad I did.

I spent time with my brother, cousin, and some close friends. After losing my mum and sister over the last twenty years, moments like these are more important than ever.

Our first day was spent at Watergate Bay – walking along the sand, laughing, chatting. No work emails. No rushing around. Just being present.

Day two took us to Perranporth, where we visited The Watering Hole – the only bar in the UK that sits right on the beach. The sound of the waves, a cold drink in hand, and good company – it’s the simple things that can do wonders for your mental health.

We then stayed for three nights at a beautiful seaside cottage in Lusty Glaze. It’s a rustic hideaway right on the sand, and honestly, it felt like a little slice of peace. Lusty Glaze is not just stunning – it’s the UK’s first licensed beach resort for civil marriages, and also hosts world-class music events.

On Saturday night, I experienced something truly special. The incredible 30-piece Symphonica Orchestra performed Ibiza Club Classics. It was led by 4 x DMC World Champion DJ Mr Switch, with the orchestra conducted by the talented Miles Hancock. A 2.5 hour show of pure musical joy.

Music has always been a big part of my life. It helps me process emotions, lifts my mood, and gives me energy. Dancing and singing that night – I felt truly alive.

On the last evening, I sat on the patio of the cottage and watch the sun dip into the sea. There’s something about a sunset that brings clarity. It gave me time to breathe, to reflect on the past, and to think about what’s next.

That short break in Cornwall reminded me how important it is to step away sometimes. To rest. To recharge. To live.

If you’re feeling worn out, please don’t ignore it. Burn-out is real – and it can creep up slowly. Talk to someone. Take a break. Do something you love.

Work is important, yes. But so is your health. So are your relationships. So is you.

Take care of yourself. You deserve it.
