Biggleswade Town Council Supports ‘For Men To Talk’

Awards, General News, News & Events

‘For Men To Talk’ is proud to share some exciting news. We have been awarded £462.25 from Biggleswade Town Council. This funding will allow us to buy a Junior Pinnable Table Top Folding Display Board, Cascade Four Pocket Leaflet Dispenser and A5 promotional flyers. These tools will help us spread the word about our groups and the support we offer to men in the local community.

During the town council meeting, the Mayor of Biggleswade 2025–2026, Councillor Jonathan Woodhead, shared his support for our work. He said: “I’m familiar with a lot of the work that ‘For Men To Talk’ have done. The intervention work they do actually keeps people out of the NHS. So I definitely want to support ‘For Men To Talk’ and recognise the good work they do locally.”

Cllr Duncan Strachan, Chairman of the Finance and General Purposes Committee, said: “We are delighted to support a variety of worthy causes in our community through grant funding. We hope these grants will make a real difference to local people.”

Biggleswade is at the heart of our group. Every month we hold five meetings in the town. This includes two morning sessions at the Bigg Theatre, two evening sessions at Jones’ Café Bar, and a walking meeting. We also organise twelve fishing meetings each year close to Biggleswade. For those unable to attend in person, we run a virtual meeting every Wednesday.

Our work has continued to grow beyond Biggleswade. We now offer physical, virtual, walking, and fishing meetings in many towns and villages across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, and even as far as Stockport, Cheshire. Places include Ampthill, Blunham, Potton, Shefford, Flitwick, Sandy, Blunham, St Neots, Gamlingay, and Hitchin.

We also have ‘For Men To Talk about Autism’. This group is designed for autistic men, men with autistic family members, and men waiting for a diagnosis. It offers a safe and inclusive space where people can share their experiences and feel supported.

Our founder, Luke Newman, explained why this funding is so important: “We are always looking for new ways to reach more men who may be struggling. Thanks to the support from Biggleswade Town Council, we will now have better tools to promote our groups locally and make sure men know that help and friendship are available.”

The grant may seem small, but its impact will be big. With the new display board and dispenser, we will be able to show information about our groups at events, community spaces, and meetings. Flyers will also help us connect with men who may not know that support is available close to them.

‘For Men To Talk’ is all about creating a safe space where men can meet, talk openly, and support each other. Whether through chatting over a coffee, walking together, fishing, or joining virtually, the goal is always the same—helping men feel less alone.
