On Friday 13 October 2023, the picturesque Shortmead House in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, will be the venue for the much-anticipated first ever ‘For Men To Talk Ibiza Classics Black & White Fundraising Ball.

This fundraising event aims to raise money for the community interest company ‘For Men To Talk’ which provide a safe and supportive environment for men suffering from anxiety, depression, and grief to connect with one another. Additionally, the event’s proceeds will also contribute to improving the lives of children in Kenya who are living in deprived environments.

With an exciting lineup of a three-course meal, food, drink, raffle, silent auction and top-notch entertainment, this is an occasion not to be missed!

Welcoming all genders, ’For Men To Talk’ will be throwing a party featuring the biggest & best dance records played in Ibiza over the last 30 years, including Faithless, Calvin Harris, Armand Van Helden, Stardust and Daft Punk.

The ball will also host a silent auction, where items or experiences are put on display for attendees to bid on. Unlike a traditional auction where bids are openly announced, in a silent auction, participants write down their bids on sheets of paper placed next to each item or experience. The bids are usually kept secret, hence the term ‘silent.’

This is a black and white themed ball but guests will not be encouraged to dress in formal attire such as tuxedos, black dresses, evening gowns, or cocktail dresses in black or white, unless they desire. Smart black and/or white clothing will be sufficient.

‘For Men To Talk’ is committed to breaking down the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and providing vital support to those in need. By joining this ball, you can actively contribute to this crucial cause and make a difference in the lives of countless men seeking solace and understanding.

In addition to supporting men’s mental health, this event has a noble mission of uplifting the lives of children living in deprived environments in Nakuru in Kenya. The funds raised through the fundraising ball will be dedicated to improving access to better education, better facilities and essential resources for these children.

Hosted at Shortmead, it was built in the early 16th century, with the first mention in 1543 when a Thomas Butcher, the owner of Shortmead Farm, gave money in his will to St Andrew’s Church in Biggleswade. Today the site covers 24 acres and the long-term plan is to recover as much of the original area as possible to help restore the original feel of the house and grounds, where it will continue to host events, such as balls and weddings.
